Ellie's B-Day

As some of you know, yesterday was Ellie's second birthday. I thought it was the perfect time to discuss her heritage. When she learned of the Buxton family's storied history, she was thrilled to carry the family name......

When I told her about the other side, the Branson side, she had a slightly different reaction......

Have a great weekend!!!

It's been a year

Sara and I bought a new video game. It is called "secret of shadow ranch". There is a creepy guy named Texas and (nancy says so) a cute one named Dave and a cheerful one named shorty-i call him smiley. It has been a full year since dad died. (TOM) We are headin' to Texas this morning. We should probrably leave in an hour or so. We found Dave in the secret cellar. We have seen the "Phantom horse". We went to a cookout with smiley, tex, and Dave. The pumphouse blew up. We baked a cake for Texas' b-day. Texas' sister is Jane Nash who was fired by the Rawleys.

P.S. Sara and I are each getting $1 this week

We're instating a point system for chores: By the end of each week, if either has done one or more chores all week, the points translate into a $ amount, weighed by a factor, if they choose to put it into savings.. We'll see how that goes - it's still in its initial phase.

Today has been very emotional so far, mostly in shorter bursts. I know you're with us, Tom, and it gives us peace at some level. You've done a lot of work on me and for me, and we have these really cool kids to carry on. Hopefully, they will continue their contribution to making this place better.

Calling everyone -- thank you for all you are and all you have been during these many years, and in particular this last year. Peace be with you all.

Tom, please stay with us forever.

I'm Baaaaak

I finally am allowed to post again. I spent too much time in the upgrade penalty box.
The pictures above are Rachel's knee (the inside).
The following is a copy of an email I sent to some of you last week. I am putting a copy here for those of you who's email I couldn't easily find. I will comment further at the end.

Just wanted to let everyone know Rachel had knee surgery on Friday (Feb 23rd) morning.

She injured her knee playing basketball Tuesday night. She went down on her butt going for a rebound and as she turned over to get up she said her right knee slid out and she felt a pop.

Went to the emergency room and got her some drugs for the pain and an x-ray to see if there was any bone damage. No bone damage but the doctor thought there might be some cartilage damage and that the cartilage was stuck in the joint because she couldn't straighten her leg.

Saw an orthopedic surgeon Thursday morning and had an MRI that afternoon.

She has a "bucket handle tear" of her meniscus. It tears and a chunk of it goer into the joint and locks it. Her tear was a good candidate for surgery to stitch it back together. They did the surgery at 7am Friday and she was home by 10:30.

Surgery went as expected and she is doing OK, a little pain and a little depressed.

Rachel was lobbying for a removal. The recovery time on that is about 3 weeks compared to 3 months with the repair. The 3 month time line means she won't be playing soccer this spring (hard missing her senior year) but she will be ready for the fall season at college. She talked to her college coach and he said this won't effect her scholarship.

She is doing well now but she is already sick of the crutches and school is a chore. She can't drive herself so I am her chauffeur. The recovery is going as planned, but she is very depressed about missing soccer.

Upgrade Complete?

Ok, the blog has been upgraded to the google blogger.

I'd suggest that everybody upgrade at their leisure.

Upgrade Problems

A couple of people have sent me e-mail about how they upgraded their blog and now they can't post. So I think I will try upgrading the whole thing to the google.

So if you don't hear from me again, its because I've upgraded and I can't get up.

Prepare to be assimilated.

Resistance is futile.
