I haven't looked at the ND Oil website in over a year. I took a look today and saw some new activity.
One of our sections is highlighted (by me) in green. The yellow dots are new wells whose status is confidential for some period of months. The one closest to our section has a rig on it right now which might imply current drilling activity.
All of the active oil fields span many sections, so hopefully if they have some luck with the drilling, our section might be part of one. Also, optimistic Mike thinks that maybe they're moving that rig east to west and drilling new wells.
Do any of you certified letter people know the name of our oil company? Even though the wells are confidential, the oil company names and some other info is listed on the web site.

The 2 names that appear in the case filed are Continental Resources, Inc. ("Continental") and they wish to drill horizontally to the Bakken formation.
Ok, thanks for that info. I took another look and the rig on the map does indeed belong to Continental. The other two wells to the right belong to another oil company.
It looks like the Bakken formation covers a lot of western ND and extends into MT. They've had success with drilling in MT, so there is renewed interest on the ND side.
Spare the details, where is my check?
The Bismarck Tribune says there's between 200 and 400 billion barrels around the Bakken Formation. What's 400 billion times 100?

Any idea on how to update our addresses so our $1M checks show up at the right house?
When I originally called the lawyer, he told me that we should send a to-whom-it-may-concern letter with the right addresses to the ND Oil and Gas people. So maybe we should do that and also send one to the oil company.
(The funny thing about that call to the lawyer 2 years ago was that Bill got the lease offer 1 or 2 days later. No contact for ten years or so, and I didn't identify myself, and the lease offer came right after.)
